Workshop: Suggestion, seduction, surrender: the dynamics of the spiral with Claudia Kratzheller

Spirals are a dynamic shape that you encounter everywhere: be it in a growing plant, a DNA code, architectural constructs, your own walking pattern or a Tango ocho...

As well in CI as in Tango the use of the spiral is essential to our repertoire: it can be very subtle and elegant in walking, it can be lushly rolling on the ground, curling and reaching your limbs in love with the floor and other available playmates, it can be in quiet expansion and dynamic stillness before the explosion into the next moment-

We'll explore this beautiful state of being in various forms: from the relation to the ground rising into standing and playing with it in contact with each other, engaging in embrace and letting go again.

Please come and celebrate the joy of spirals together!

Workshop: Tango and the Elements

Claudia Kratzheller will give the workshop preceding this jam.

fire fuego = axis
air aire = space
earth tierra = floor
water agua = embrace, connection

We'll live through a warm-up that takes the elements as metaphor for moving. Any movement, be it tango, contact or any relating contains all of them:

Let's connect to the floor, to ground, feel the space in yourself, the room and the partner(s) with the ease of air, feel the fire in our spines as axis, and float with open arms to embrace the currents of connection like streams of water!

Come and enjoy!

Workshop: this month Patrick Johnson leads the workshop "Walking Contact Improvisation":

"When we think contact improvisation, we may think of rolling, jumping, and falling. When we think of tango, we may think of walking. So how can contact improvisation and tango meet?

In this workshop we'll explore the roll of walking in contact improvisation and see how it can lead to intimate dancing. After all, walking is a combination of falling and recovering and when done with a partner involves thrillingly sensitive communication. In particular we'll look at walking forward, backward, and sideways, spinning while walking, falling and rising to and from the floor from walking (forward and backward), and lifting from walking. Our goal will be to link contact improvisation and tango so that the two forms can flow together seamlessly."

About Patrick: Patrick Johnson has studied and taught contact improvisation for over a decade in the U.S. and Europe. He is also a certified teacher of the Alexander technique and applies principles of Alexander technique to all aspects of his dance teaching.
