Workshop: this month Patrick Johnson leads the workshop "Walking Contact Improvisation":
"When we think contact improvisation, we may think of rolling, jumping, and falling. When we think of tango, we may think of walking. So how can contact improvisation and tango meet?
In this workshop we'll explore the roll of walking in contact improvisation and see how it can lead to intimate dancing. After all, walking is a combination of falling and recovering and when done with a partner involves thrillingly sensitive communication. In particular we'll look at walking forward, backward, and sideways, spinning while walking, falling and rising to and from the floor from walking (forward and backward), and lifting from walking. Our goal will be to link contact improvisation and tango so that the two forms can flow together seamlessly."
About Patrick: Patrick Johnson has studied and taught contact improvisation for over a decade in the U.S. and Europe. He is also a certified teacher of the Alexander technique and applies principles of Alexander technique to all aspects of his dance teaching.
